ART Plays Around (Every Friday at 5PM)

Every Friday at 5PM SLT, join the actors of the Avatar Repertory Theater in a series of staged readings and dramatic scenes known as ART Plays Around. Watch a sort of "open workshop," where the actors in the company experiment with different techniques. Sometimes we will do the same scene more than once, either to hear different voices and actors in the same roles, or to pause and let the director give some notes to the cast before a second run-through. Scenes that we've performed recently have included a number of scenes from Shakespeare's Anthony & Cleopatra, as well as from other plays by the Bard. We've also performed scenes from a stage adaption of Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland, and a number of other monologues and short pieces. These workshops/performances are completely free to attend. They happen at the Greek Archon Theater in Cookie.

Tales of the Metaverse (2008 October)

Image: Metaverse2.png

Tales of the Metaverse was the Avatar Repertory Theater's first production. Taking three one-act plays written by Second Life residents, the up and coming group sought to thrill. Nearly a year later, those same members are working to get the plays logged through machinima work led by Thundergas Menges.

Performed at both Topaz Plaza and Broadway Live Island, these selections proved to be a thrill for audience members at both venues.

  • Thursday, October 30, 6pm SLT
  • Friday, October 31, 6pm SLT
  • Saturday, November 1, 12pm SLT
  • Sunday, November 2, 2pm SLT

From another dimension:

A dimension of sight and sound.

A dimension of imagination.

A dimension of virtual reality.

Second Life... The Metaverse.

The age of the metaverse is upon us.

The Tempest (2009 February)

Image:tempest2.png

The Tempest, a story of love, deceit and redemption was brought to Second Life by the Avatar Repertory Theater in February of 2009. Given a steampunk twist, the visuals were set to excite and wow just as much as the fantastic acting. This SL play was set to be special from the beginning, and it was.

As JubJub Forder described the design, "[It's a] pre-apocolyptic post-victorian furry steampunk... and with a dedicated sim, special effects, uniquely created stage and props, and of course the finest actors in SL....its bound to be a blast"

And a blast it was!

All performances were in the Garden World sim, hosted by JubJub Forder. Seating was limited and tickets were L$500.

  • Thursday, February 12, 6pm SLT
  • Saturday, February 14, 3pm SLT
  • Sunday, February 15, 3pm SLT
  • Tuesday, February 17, 3pm SLT

Coventry University presents Avatar Repertory Theater's staging of "13 Objects: Studies in Servitude" by Howard Barker as part of an international festival celebrating the work of this prestigious playwright.

"13 Objects: Studies in Servitude" by Howard Barker, will be performed by A.R.T. live in Second Life, October 20th at 4 pm and October 21st at 2 pm SLT at the Coventry University sim. 13 Objects shows the secret lives of everyday objects, such as a cup and saucer, or a camera, to make intimate connections and inspire powerful feelings, with poetic language, provocative ideas and dark humor.

Along with the live performances, A.R.T. plans to display an installation featuring scenes from "13 Objects" to allow Second Life residents to wander through the environment and get a feel for this remarkable work. The installation is scheduled to open sometime in October and be up for at least thirty days.

Avatar Repertory Theater to present "Alice in WonderSLand" Once the line between genius and madness has been crossed, you can never go back, and for one little girl, that line keeps moving. Please join Alice’s trip down the rabbit hole as the Avatar Repertory Theater proudly presents "Alice in WonderSLand", in an all-original production with our madly talented international cast and team. Lead designer JubJub Forder says "this is not the cutesy Alice you usually find in movies. This is a little girl's dark fears of growing up."

Performances are: Sunday May 2, 3PM PST Saturday May 8, 4PM PST Sunday May 9, 2PM PST Friday May 14, 11PM PST Saturday May 15, 10AM PST Sunday May 16, 4PM PST Saturday May 22, 3pm PST Sunday May 23, 2pm PST Saturday June 5, 3pm PST Sunday June 6, 3pm PST

Tickets are L$500 (about US$2), available for purchase on XStreet April 18. After receiving your ticket, you will be given a landmark to transport you to the performance venue.

The audience will be immersed into WonderSLand, where they will see magical places bloom around them, with a panoramic view of the scenes built by JubJub Forder and his talented crew. Visit the White Rabbit's house, enjoy a Tea Party with the Mad Hatter, Dormouse and March Hare, attend a Croquet game hosted by the Queen of Hearts, and witness the trial of the Knave of Hearts in a courtroom where rules are meant to be broken.

Theater presented in a virtual world such as this gives the designers, costumers, builders and actors the opportunity to present entertainment that would be impossible in real life. Our imagination drives those dreams, and we invite you to come play with us in WonderSLand. Avatar designer Ada Radius promises your experience to be "surreal comedy on the edge of a nightmare", and costume designer Rowan Shamroy is creating a dark look to echo the original Tenniel illustrations, based on the clothing of late Victorian England.

The production, directed by MadameThespian Underhill, features Mickie Nikolaidis and Elegia Underwood alternating the role of Alice, with (in order of appearance) Persephone Phoenix, Sodovan Torok, Joff Fassnacht, Em Jannings, AvaJean Westland, Rowan Shamroy, Kayden Oconnell, Thundergas Menges, Dolgoruky Umarov, Ada Radius, Lailu Loon, Corwyn Allen and JudyArx Scribe.
